Försäkringskassan (social insurance)
FörsäkringskassanFörsäkringskassan handles child allowance, parental pay, sick pay, housing allowance and other benefits. Most things are done online with BankID.
Steps
- 1
Make sure you're registered with Skatteverket and have a personnummer.
- 2
Create an account at forsakringskassan.se by logging in with BankID.
- 3
From the menu, apply for the benefit that fits your situation: barnbidrag (child allowance), föräldrapenning (parental pay), sjukpenning (sick pay), bostadsbidrag (housing benefit).
- 4
Upload any documents they ask for in your inbox ('Mina meddelanden'). Reply quickly — late answers slow down or stop payments.
- 5
Check 'Utbetalningar' in your account to see when your money will arrive in your bank account.
- 6
If something changes (you move, change job, your child changes school), report it through your account.
Good to know
- Child allowance (barnbidrag) starts automatically once a child is registered in Sweden — but parents may need to choose who receives it.
- If a payment is late, first check your inbox in the app — they often need an answer from you.
- If you don't have BankID yet, you can fill in paper forms — but it's much slower.
